State Policy, Talent Leaders Honor Upper Peninsula Workforce Development Results
Snyder Administration Officials Join Local Lawmakers in Presenting Stewart Manufacturing, Local Resident Timothy Taylor, and the Upward Talent Council with 2017 Impact Awards
LANSING, MI (February 22, 2017) — State leaders this week came together to honor Upper Peninsula economic leaders for their efforts to create jobs and develop fresh talent in their communities.
Lawmakers and statewide talent development officials recognized Stewart Manufacturing, area resident Timothy Taylor, and the UPWARDTalent Council for their efforts to drive local growth.
Stewart Manufacturing was awarded state Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) funding in 2016 to upskill incumbent workers and provide assistance with on-site training for newly hired machine operators.
As one of the candidates in the UPWARD Talent Council’s talent pool, Taylor was identified as a potential fit for Stewart. Michigan Works! supported Taylor and ultimately helped him connect with full employment and training.
“It is good to see instances where state dollars, local ingenuity, and individual determination can come together to create success,” said Michigan Sen. Tom Casperson (R-Escanaba). “My congratulations to those who were involved in this project and recognized through today’s Impact Awards.”
The Michigan Works! Impact Awards bring lawmakers and economic achievers together for a unique look at the work that’s transforming Michigan’s economic vitality. Dozens of honorees from across the state received awards presented by their local lawmakers and state workforce development officials.
Award winners included Michigan businesses, partners, employees and Michigan Works! Agencies from across the state. During the event, lawmakers presented tributes to award winners, who shared their stories and the role Michigan Works! played in their success.
“Stewart Manufacturing is a tremendous asset to our region, as are workers with spirit and talent, like Mr. Taylor,” said State Rep. Beau LaFave (R-Iron Mountain). “My sincere appreciation and support go out to all those who are working to support our local economy, just like today’s winners.”
